Sparkolloid carries a positive charge and thus combines with negatively charged particles, removing them from the wine. It should only be used on wine which has been racked at least one time. Mix 0. Heat to boiling in a double boiler and simmer for half an hour. Prevent scorching by frequent stirring. You will need to sacrifice a little of your wine if you are topped up; ideal time for a sampling. Do you have any sediment dropped out or did you just rack? You could always rack and then re-top-off with sparkolloid water.

I don't know, but something feels wrong to me about boiling my wine. I know it would work out okay, but I worked hard to make that wine close to perfect and I'd rather add a cup o water than boil it. I seriously doubt you need to boil to dissolve 1 tsp in two cups. But if you don't want to heat up your wine, I get that too. BernardSmith Senior Member. Does Sparkolloid need to be added to wine when it is hot? Yes, you add it hot. It needs to be boiled for a few minutes to dissolve and activate, then I usually allow it to cool for 20 minutes before adding, but it says to add immediately.

Let stand three to four weeks and carefully rack away from the sediments of the Sparkolloid and the lees. It's a very fluffy sediment, so be prepared to lose an inch of wine. Rate of Use 5 - 7. Molecular Charge and Molecular Targets Positively charged. It is a proprietary blend including diatomaceous earth. It neutralizes the repelling charge of particulate matter allowing aggregation and formation of compact lees.
It does not remove desirable color constituents.
