With the release of the singles Give it All, Swing Life Away, and Life Less Frightening, Rise Against, became more popular with mainstream fans, but still kept their underground sensibility. After more touring including a European tour and spots on the Vans Warped tour , the band went back to the studio and recorded The Sufferer and the Witness, which included two singles Ready to Fall and Prayer of the Refugee.
Tim is also active in a heavier, more hardcore type side-project band called The Killing Tree along with former Rise Against guitarist Todd Mohney, though all members use pseudonyms in concern to the band. Tim is known for his deep and melodic vocal style, which often sets them apart from other Hardcore bands.
Tim also writes the lyrics for all Rise Against songs. His songs usually involve his liberal political stand point, and love songs. In his political songs he often portrays a group of people, but at times portrays only himself. He is also a competent guitarist but didn't start playing guitar for Rise Against until the "Revolutions Per Minute" writing sessions. This has been more evident in recent years. We were just trying to get in front of people. My heart goes out to the bands and musicians and artists where this was supposed to be their year to break, and I hope that this window stays open long enough for them. Support for workers in the music industry in the UK has been incredibly poor.
How have you found it in America? The bigger venues are hurting too, but a lot of them have more resources at their disposal, but the independent venues need the help.
These buildings are irreplaceable a lot of the time, too; as a band who have rolled around the world playing all these shows, you really come to appreciate those old venues. In happier news, we recently got the first new Rise Against music in three years, Broken Dreams, Inc.
Do you get nervous about releasing new music at this point? I think, had I heard that sentence before we put the song out, then yes, I probably would have been more nervous. And so I was so excited to see this song getting the attention it deserves, as opposed to if it was, like, track eight on a record.
This has been a cool, unique way to get it out there, too. Your lyrics were written long before the pandemic and any of the craziness of , and yet they have this dystopian feel and cross over into a superhero world really well. Were they written once you knew about the Dark Nights soundtrack, or was Broken Dreams going to be a song for the new Rise Against album at first?
